Michael C. Cassidy is the District Attorney of the 31st Judicial District, which comprises Jefferson Davis Parish. he was elected to the position in October, 1990, and bean serving as District Attorney on January 1, 1991. he has been re-elected three times without opposition.
Mr. Cassidy is a lifelong resident of Jennings, Louisiana. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1978, received his Bachelor of arts degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana(now University of Louisiana Lafayette) in 1982, and he received his Juris Doctorate from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1985. He was engaged in private of law handling personal injury, successions, real estate, domestic relations and custody matters, and criminal defense for five years before being elected District Attorney. He also served as City Attorney for the City of Jennings during that time. Mr. Cassidy is the first full time District Attorney in Jefferson Davis
Mr. Cassidy is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, Jeff Davis Parish Bar Association, Louisiana District Attorney's Association. Mr. Cassidy served as president of the Jeff Davis Bar Association and currently serves as vice-president. He served as president of the Louisiana District Attorney's Association and as a board member for many years. Mr. Cassidy also serves as a member of the Louisiana Drug Control and Violent Crime Police Board, and serves as vice-president of the Southwest Louisiana Law Enforcement Planning District.
Mr. Cassidy is an active member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. he is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council on Aging advisory board, and the Internal Review Board of SOWELA Technical College. Mr. Cassidy is also a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, and executive board member for the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Cassidy has been married to his wife, Jan, since 1982, and they have three sons.
